Story idea:
Title: Inconclusive Evidence.
To distract from their shady operations, a secret government organization preps for a new set of fake UFO sightings. Their meeting gets interrupted by an alien who plans to make first contact with the world but now fears that it will be disregarded as a hoax.
The inconclusive evidence of alien life on Earth has been a story told many times. Secret government agencies falsifying UFO sightings is also a story told frequently. With the recent drone sightings in New Jersey, both stories have flip-flopped back and forth in an effort to understand the phenomenon.

Going all the way back to Roswell in 1947 or to the Nazca lines or to the mysterious construction of the pyramids, these stories all end up being some form of entertainment. And what’s wrong with a little entertainment? Some humor, some horror, some intrigue, some education. Where’s the harm in that?

Hearing about the reports from New Jersey and seeing the humor and disbelief it’s been met with, I wondered what would happen if we were actually visited by aliens. What would we do if a spacecraft landed in New Jersey and aliens greeted us in front of a million cell phones? Would we believe it? Would we scoff and blame DeepFake or AI?

What if first contact has been doomed to be nothing but stories because we’ve been so good at turning it into jokes and fiction. And because of that, the real aliens from a distant world avoid us so that they don’t also become jokes and fiction.
Who knows? But it sure makes for a good story.
